Fintech's growth outpaces record 2004 growth for nationwide ACH volume
The nation's financial institutions originated more than 2 billion automated clearing house (ACH) payments in the 3rd quarter of 2004, the first time that milestone has been achieved, according to statistics from NACHA - The Electronic Payments Association. Financial institutions' originated ACH volume for the quarter was 2.86 billion up a sizzling 24.6% over a year ago. Including Federal government payments, ACH volume was over 2.3 billion for the 3rd quarter.
In the regulated beverage payments industry, Fintech continued to lead the way by processing over 1.7 million payments for invoices totaling over $1.385 billion in the 3rd quarter. This was a 30% increase of the same period in 2003. Fintech's community of trading partners is currently comprised of over 2,300 retailers and 1,000 distributors making up over 85,000 trading relationships.

TN - Publix Super Markets is adding two grocery stores in southeast Davidson County in a drive to expand in growing neighborhoods in and around Nashville.
The Lakeland, FL- based company confirmed that it has signed a lease to go into Nippers Corners at the intersection of Edmondson Pike and Old Hickory Boulevard. Publix is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2006 at the site of the former Regal Theater, according to the developer.
Publix also plans to open in Concord Village at the corner of Nolensville Road and Concord Road, just north of the Williamson County line.
"We do have a growth plan in place for the Nashville area." said Brenda Reid, spokeswoman for Publix. She declined to divulge how many Publix stores are targeted for the Midstate.
Seven have been announced or are reported to be in the works, on top of the seven others already open. Publix entered the market after buying seven Albertson's locations in 2002.
Publix's strategy so far in Nashville is to open stores in growing, suburban neighborhoods and growing towns. It has stores planned in Brentwood, Franklin, Gallatin, Smyrna and Spring Hill.
The two latest proposed stores are in Davidson County, where developers say they have an easier time building than in nearby Williamson County.
Publix has been turned down at least twice in attempts to build a grocery store in east Williamson County.
The latest Publix would go in a shopping center planned by GBT Realty at the corner of Concord Road and Nolensville Road. A representative of GBT could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Slightly northwest of there, Publix will be a tenant in the Nippers Corner development owned by Baker Storey McDonald Properties. It bought Nippers Corner in 2002 for $6.7 million and has been trying to redevelop the 65,000 square-foot shopping center. The Publix store there will be 46,000 square feet.
The developer said in a statement that it plans $100,000 worth of improvements for the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Edmondson Pike as part of the project.
