On October 9, 2007 the nation's second and third largest brewers, Miller and Coors, announced plans to merge their U.S. operations to help them compete more effectively against market leader Anheuser-Busch and adapt to changes in the U.S. alcohol beverage industry.
The combined company to be called MillerCoors, will be the second-largest U.S. brewer, behind Anheuser-Busch Cos. Miller Brewing Co., Milwaukee is owned by SABMiller PLC and has approximately 18 percent market share; Molson Coors Brewing Co., Denver has 11 percent market share; while Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis controls 48 percent of the U.S. beer market.
MillerCoors plans to invest more effectively in marketing its brands to consumers. In addition, the company expects to generate $500 million in cost savings from combining back-office operations, optimizing production, reducing shipping times for beer to distributors, consolidating the supply chain, and eliminating duplicate corporate and marketing services. No breweries are expected to be closed under the deal.
For years the beer industry has been struggling with long-term trends that have challenged domestic brewers. Wine and distilled spirits sales and consumption are growing at faster rates than beer in the U.S. Per capita consumption of beer has fallen and beer's share of total alcohol consumed has declined. Global beer importers and small craft brewers are both increasing share of volume and profit growth.
One thing that should not change will be creative and entertaining beer advertising and marketing- we will all still be able to look forward to exciting commercials and ads!
The deal is expected to close mid-2008, subject to government antitrust review and approval.

Fintech Participates in NACS Show 2007
Fintech representatives were busy in Atlanta November 7th -
9th exhibiting at the NACS Show 2007 for convenience and petroleum retailers.
There were over 23,000 industry professionals attending the show to gain knowledge through educational sessions and workshops, networking, and to review the latest new products and strategies for convenience retailing.
The Fintech team kept very busy during the event, with many clients stopping by the booth to exchange ideas and discuss industry trends.
More than 10,000 C-store customers use Fintech Fintech OneSource to handle EFT payment processing and data reporting for alcoholic beverage purchases with all of their regulated distributors.
